Alice
"Alice, please, eat something? There's tea, and finger sandwiches."
"I don't think so, mother. This was her favourite," Alice whispered, "with lemon and honey."
"Please, just try?" Mrs. Greene stood up and left the room. The people were dressed in black, and there was a picture frame on the table. Lillie was Alice's best friend. She was gone. Cancer.
As soon as her mother was gone, Alice popped three or four finger sammies in her mouth. She wasn't guilt ridden like the rest of them. To Alice, Lillie was sitting next to her on the couch. She was giggling, smiling, not dead.
